By making a few changes to the times you use high energy appliances like your pool pump, air conditioner and washing machine, you can take advantage of Origin's special off-peak electricity rates.
Developed for the Adelaide Solar City initiative, Origin's new Smart Electricity pricing plans could help you make real savings on your electricity bills when you shift your energy usage to certain times of the day.
There are two Smart Electricity pricing plans to choose from:
• Option 1: Smart Time of Use
• Option 2: Dynamic Saver

Participating households will also recieve a Smart Meter installed at no cost#. Hurry, the trial is limited to a number of households in the Cities of Salisbury, Tea Tree Gully, and Playford and Adelaide City. Joining is completely optional and you may opt out at any time.

What is a Smart Meter?
A Smart Electricity Meter, fitted with a remote meter reading device, can collect 
detailed information about your electricity consumption in thirty minute intervals. You can then view this energy usage information any time on line and estimated resultant greenhouse gas emissions (presented in half hour or daily intervals).
How does a Smart Meter help me save money?
A Smart Meter, provided and fitted at no cost to eligible residents* in the Solar City catchment area, can help you understand your electricity consumption patterns. This can help you to identify ways of reducing your usage, and in turn, the cost of your electricity bills.
What’s more, having a Smart Meter means you can choose Origin's Adelaide Solar City Energy Plan and select from Origin's new Smart Electricity pricing plan options, offering cheaper than normal rates for certain hours of the day or days of the year.
By thinking smart, and moving your energy consumption to these times, you can enjoy great savings.

Which Smart Electricity pricing plan best suits my energy needs?
There are two Smart Electricity pricing options to choose from - Smart Time of Use and Dynamic Saver. Which one works for you? Consider the following for some help in deciding:
Do you have off-peak electric hot water or multiple electrical appliances that run overnight?
If you answered ‘yes’, then a Smart Time of Use options will offer you a cheaper electricity rate during off peak times.
Do you have electric heating?
As electric heating is more commonly used during the colder months, a Smart Time of Use Seasonal option means you’ll pay a lower rate during the non-summer period, between 1 April and 31 December.
If you have no electric hot water or heating, a Dynamic Saver option may be a better choice.

Call Origin on 1300 139 088 for details. #Depending on configuration of your wiring and setup of Smart Meter, energy usage displayed may only be from the power grid to your home, and surplus solar power generated and exported from your home. Total solar electricity generated and total household usage may not be available. Δ Your home assessment must be completed within 8 weeks of the first call made to arrange an appointment. You must also nominate Origin as the greenhouse gas "Abator". This nomination means that you agree to transfer to Origin the rights to create and own emission reduction units and energy efficiency credits in respect of the installations under this program regardless of when the greenhouse gas abatement occurs.
