Smart Rates Adelaide Solar City Energy Plan FAQ's
Smart Rates Adelaide Solar City Energy Plan FAQ's
Q Which Smart Rates pricing plan best suits my energy needs?
A There are two Smart Rates electricity pricing options to choose from - Smart Time of Use and Dynamic Saver. Which one works for you? Consider the following for some help in deciding:
Q Do you have off-peak electric hot water or multiple electrical appliances that run overnight?
A If you answered ‘yes’, then our Smart time of use options will offer you a cheaper electricity rate during off peak times.
Q Do you have electric heating?
A As electric heating is more commonly used during the colder months, our Smart time of use seasonal option means you’ll pay a lower rate during the non-summer period, between 1 April and 31 December.
Q Do you have neither electric hot water or heating?
A If you have no electric hot water or heating, our Dynamic Saver option may be a better choice.
Q Am I locked into a contract?
A No you are not locked into a contract. You can leave at any time provided you have notified Origin in advance.
Q Is there an exit fee on my contract?
A No, there is no exit fee associated with your Smart Rates Adelaide Solar City Energy Plan. You can leave without a penalty provided you have notified Origin in advance.
Q What happens if I want to switch from an existing Origin product?
A You can switch from an existing Origin product however you may lose the benefits associated with your current energy plan if the energy plan period hasn’t ended when you switch. The same may apply if you switch from another energy Retailer.
Q Why do I have to complete the Solar City data questionnaire?
A We ask you to complete the Solar City data questionnaire to help us better understand how you use energy. The electricity usage data will be used by the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency (DCCEE) to help determine future climate change and energy policies. Your information will be treated with confidence and is subject to the privacy act.
Q What happens if I do not complete the Solar City data questionnaire?
A If you do not complete the Solar City data questionnaire we are not able to process your energy plan any further and the smart meter will not be installed at your supply address. If you are transferring from another retailer, your transfer will be cancelled.
Q How does the electricity meter get changed?
A After you have signed up to one of the Smart Rates Adelaide Solar City energy plans and we have received your completed Solar City Questionnaire, the meter provider will go out and install your meter. Allow at least 8-10 weeks from the date you accepted the Smart Energy Plan for the meter installer to come and install the smart meter.
Q Can I change my mind after the meter has been installed?
A After the meter has been installed you can change your mind however there should be no reason to. With your new Smart Meter you can enjoy the features of your Smart Electricity tariffs like access to cheaper than normal rates for certain periods, being able to track your usage and greenhouse gas emissions and making smarter use of your electricity consumption.
Q Can I choose GreenPower accredited electricity with the Smart energy plans?
A Yes, you can choose from 25% ($1 per week) up to 100% (5.5c/kWh extra) GreenPower at an additional charge on top of the Smart Energy tariff as part of the Smart Energy Plan.
Q I live outside the project area. How can I be involved?
A Some of the products offered under the Solar City project will be available to the whole of Adelaide, but special offers will only apply to limited areas and limited trials. Origin's GreenPower green product is available to anyone who purchases electricity from Origin in South Australia.
Q Who decides the critical peak in the CPP product?
A In the case of the Origin products, this will be at Origin’s discretion based on relevant current market information.
